Please Don’t Leave Us Behind
Owning a pet is a serious responsibility, and a lifetime commitment. Before getting a new pet please consider the following:
* Research your home country, quarantine, and import regulations.
http://www.maf-aqs.go/ offers updated information, or contact your embassy to get more information.
* Choose your pet wisely.
Shipping and quarantine are often charged on the basis of size.
Some airlines will not longer ship certain breeds that they consider aggressive.
Apartments and Town houses complexes often have a size limitation if they allow pets at all.
Consider your lifestyle and do your homework.
If you believe that you must re- home your pet:
* If this is simply a financial consideration, seriously consider the non financial costs to your family before you give up your pet.
What does this teach your children about commitment?
* Know that it is difficult if not impossible to re home an adult pet.
Allow plenty of time and market broadly.
Not “any home” is a good home.
* Household staff should not be considered a possibility no matter how much they love your pet.
Social, work, and financial pressures will eventually lead to your pet being passed on or neglected due to lack of funds for food or medical care.
* The animal shelter (Pondok Pengayom Satwa) or organizations like JAAN are always full, with hundreds of animals on the waiting list.
Most of the applicants will not make it to the top, so JAAN or the shelter must not realistically be considered an option.
If you have done your homework and are ready to be committed to a pet that will give you years of love and affection, please consider a member of our family of dogs and cats at:
Jakarta Animal Aid Network
or
the Local Animal Shelter: Pondok Pengayom Satwa
